CRESTLINE: Carol J. Stewart, 72, of Crestline, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, after a hard fought battle with her lengthy illness.
Carol was born in LaSalle, IL, on December 7, 1939 to the late Frank and Mary (Cigolle) O'Donnell. She married Thomas J. Stewart on March, 3, 1962 and he survives her. Carol and Tom just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was a graduate of Spalding University, Louisville, KY which was the former Nazareth College. When she and Tom were first married, Carol worked as a Recovery Room Nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital, Louisville, KY. She then went on to work at Ryburn Hospital in Ottawa, IL; Clinical Instructor of OB and Head Nurse in the nursery at Samaritan Hospital, Ashland; taught Pediatrics-Development at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY; and most recently she was employed by the Galion Community Hospital, Galion. Carol was a member of the Nursing Association. She enjoyed working with flowers and the outdoors, spending time with her grandchildren, and collecting Irish memorabilia.
She is survived by her son Scott Stewart of Gahanna; daughter Lisa (Andy) Sloan of Pataskala; five grandchildren: Thomas Stewart, Stephanie Stewart, Ryan Stewart, Jacob Sloan and Kenny Sloan; sister Betty Kunkel, Peru, IL; brother Michael (Bette) O'Donnell, Peru, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law Jerry Fahrer of Lancaster.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline and from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Thursday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, with Rev. Michael A. Geiger Celebrant. Burial will be in West Rushville Cemetery, West Rushville at 3:30 PM Thursday.
