Charles G. Geer

SHELBY: Charles G. Geer, age 81, resident of Shelby, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following a courageous seven year battle with cancer.

Born August 13, 1931 in Marysville, Ohio to Albert and Clara (Zacharias) Geer he had been a Shelby resident since 1969. A 1949 graduate of Marysville High School he received his bachelor's degree from Capital University. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving on a minesweeper during the Korean Conflict. Charles was a telecom engineer with United Telephone/Sprint retiring in 1990. After retirement, he, along with two of his sons, owned and operated CE & I for several years.

He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church where he served on the property committee for many years and sang in the choir. A member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F&AM, he was a former member of the Shelby Country Club.

Charlie enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Jeri Ann (Wiggins) Geer, whom he wed August 10, 1957; three sons, Michael (Carol) Geer of Farmington, Connecticut, Charles A. Geer of Shelby and Gregory (Julie) Geer of Shelby; three grandsons, Josh, Adam and Chris Geer; three step grandchildren, Jason (Anna) Hensley, Nicole (John) Goldbach and Charles Hensley; six step great grandchildren; one brother, Don Geer of Marysville; one sister, Betty Nicol of North Canton; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred Geer.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church in Shelby. Reverend Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Barkdull Funeral Home Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway, Shelby, OH 44875 and MedCentral/Shelby Hospital Cancer Care, 199 W. Main St., Shelby, OH 44875.
