Charles V. Green

MANSFIELD: Charles V. Green, 90, died peacefully at home August 25th after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.

He was born to Robert and Myrtie (Jordan) Green on April 14, 1923.

Charles was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He has been a resident of Mansfield since returning from Europe in 1945. He retired from Martin Steel Corp. in 1984 after 38 years as foreman.

He loved fishing, growing his garden and planting trees. He told his family that they would have to take over the tree planting now.

He attended First Alliance Church with his wife, Pauline Psimer Green, who passed away in 2009. They were married for 65 wonderful years. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Paula and Charles Daniels of Mansfield and Diane and John Gurik of Apple Valley. He has six grandchildren: Mike Daniels (Jen), Jennifer Mink (Joe), Jason Gurik (Laura), Scott Gurik, Christy Shaum, all of Mansfield and Brian Gurik of Myrtle Beach, SC, 13 great-grandchildren: Matthew, John, Sarah, Abby, Elizabeth, Jon, Jaylynn, Molly, Katie, Ashley, Audrey, Justin and Emily who is deceased. He also has one great-great grandson, Wayne. He leaves one sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Harold Heuberger of Tucson, AZ, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother Roy Green and sister Mary Manning.

The family wishes to thank Gene and Mary Henke and Linda Buchanan and family for all of the cheerful phone calls, visits and food they gave Dad so faithfully. We also thank his caregivers Anna, Slenna, Ruth Ann and Jen for all of the wonderful care they gave him. The family also thanks Drs. Padival and Exten and the staff at Med Central Cancer Care for the great care they gave to him.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home at 350 Marion Avenue. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 am until time of services. The Rev. Dr. Gary Sivewright and Pastor Jim Cheatham will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
