GALION: Chester W. Shoup, 81, Galion, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, after a long illness.
Chester was born in Wayne County on October 20, 1931 to the late Chester A. and Mary A. (Nell) Shoup. He married Isabell R. Campo on February 20, 1952 and she survives him. They celebrated 60 years of marriage.
He retired from Peabody-McClain as a Machinist in 1993. He was a graduate of Ashland High School, Ashland. Chester attended Grace Baptist Church, Crestline. He bowled in the Peabody League and enjoyed ice skating and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Chester would tell his "grandpa jokes", always making his family laugh.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Richard and Elda Shoup, Galion and his daughter Shirley and Harold Kinney of Mansfield; three grandchildren: Richard, Bradley and Regina; three brothers: Martin Shoup, Kenny and Robbie Shoup, both of Milan; Royal and Arlene Shoup, Oklahoma; sister Lavon Wynn, Sandusky; sisters-in-law Marilyn Shoup, Shelby and Pat and Dick Rinehart, Galion; brother-in-law Lloyd Straight, Oberlin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Donald Joe Shoup; brothers Loren and Jack; sisters Imelda Garlick and Eldora Straight.
Friends may call Friday, January 11, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Jeff Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
