Curtis Dempsey Sumler

PERRYSVILLE: Curtis Dempsey Sumler, 80, of Perrysville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 30, 2013 while in the care of Hospice of NCO at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland.

Curtis was born August 28, 1933 in Henderson, Tennessee to Willie Sherman and Lessie (Bowman) Sumler. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had worked on the construction of Interstate 71 and for Philway, S & S Construction, and Ashland Co. Career Center. Curtis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by four children, Linda Kay (Jack) Welling of Ashland, W. Stephen Sumler of Holland, OH, Lisa Ann (Brian) Williamson of Bellville, and Curtis Daniel Sumler of Perrysville; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Brodie Sumler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Curtis was preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Ethel Louise Neal Sumler, who passed away on July 30, 2013; his father, Willie Sumler; his mother, Lessie Sumler; his step-mother, Aubrie Sumler; three brothers, Willie Frank, Gilbert and Billy; and two sisters, Raymel "Maxine" and Louise.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at Stewart Rd. Church of God, 1425 N. Stewart Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the church, with Pastor Samuel Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park.
