MANSFIELD: Donald E. Smith, 83, of Mansfield passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013, at MedCentral.

Don was born July 23, 1929 in Norwalk, Ohio, oldest of seven children, to Elmer and Louise Smith. He graduated in 1947 from Mansfield St. Peter's and married his high school sweet heart Dorothy J. Smith (Osgar) on May 6, 1950. He had a life long career as a master craftsman of Smith's Upholstering for over 60 years. Don was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #687, Secretary-Treasurer for the State of Ohio Knights of Columbus Bowling Association for 35 years. Member of the K of C Fourth Degree. He tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals, was avid bowler, and enjoyed softball and golf.

Survivors include Elsie Sgambellone, loving companion; children: son Ken(Deb)Smith, daughter Linda(Ernie) Workman, daughter Debbie(Kelly) Smith, son Steve(Brenda) Smith; grandchildren: Michele(Ed) Newmeyer, Jeremy Yeager, Kristin, Shauna, Ashley Smith, Ashley Coleman and Amanda Addington, Rick(Michelle) Hinton, Frank Workman, Sam and Max Cipriani, Ian and Lauren Smith; step Children: Kathy(Don) Anderson, Darlene(Johnny) Schmidt; step grandchildren: John and Jena Schluter, Eric(Nikki) Anderson, Erin(Arturo) Gonzalez, Jamie(Scott) Robinson; 10 great grandchildren; siblings: Norb (Kathy) Smith, Jerry (Sue) Smith, Helen (Dom) Augustine, Rita Rospert, Jeanette Frazzini; sister-in-law Janice Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy and brothers John and Ray.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm with a vigil service at 3pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Tom McQuillen officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital or North Central Ohio Hospice.
