Douglas Eugene Zeigler

MANSFIELD: Douglas Eugene Zeigler, 74, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his home, losing his longtime battle to multiple sclerosis. Doug had a passion for life and living, he never complained, instead he had a smile for everyone as he courageously fought the disease even unto the end, he had a love for life. Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, and with his passing our lives will be forever changed.

Douglas worked as a tool and die maker at General Motors until his disability forced him to retire in 1980. With unbelievable fortitude Doug bowled and was an avid golfer until the disease took even those activities away.

The family would like to thank his Hospice of North Central Ohio nurse, Laurie Speelman, whose presence and comforting words brought a smile to Doug's face. Also we would like to thank his aide Linda, and nurses Dora Kline and Dawn for your kindness and support. A special thanks to his longtime friend Bill "Bongo" Barnes who through his music and humor lifted Doug's spirits. The family would like to thank some very special people, Diane and Paul Tschantz, Michelle Prince, and our many neighbors and friends whose support and friendship helped to get us through this difficult time.

Douglas is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 40 years, Lorraine "Rainie" Zeigler, who cared for him relentlessly until his passing. Rainie would like to thank her twin sister, Connie Mortimer for going through this journey with her. Survivors include his loving son, Kevin (Laurie) Zeigler of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Kellie Johnson and son-in-law, Chuck Johnson of Florida; grandchildren, Drew (Ashley) Zeigler of Cincinnati, Chelsea (Tim) Lee of Kentucky, Amber Flannery of Washington, D.C., Coty Moore of Mansfield, Tyler Kolasky of Pennsylvania, Colton Zeigler of Ontario; loving daughter-in-law, Sonya Zeigler of Ontario; step grandchildren, Chris (Angel) Richards of Mansfield and Kyle (Melissa) Richards of Mansfield; five great grandchildren; his loving brothers, William (Sandy) Zeigler and Stanley (Becky) Zeigler; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he cared for very much, you will never know how much your phone calls and visits meant to your Uncle Doug. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kim (Karen) Edwards and family. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Teresa Zeigler and devoted son, David Eugene Zeigler.
