WILLARD: Garland M. Newhouse Rex, 100, of Willard, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Willows of Willard. She was born May 13, 1913 in Attica, OH to the late John and Addie (Rader) Newhouse. She married Raymond Rex on February 10, 1932 and he preceded her in death on June 16, 2006.
Mrs. Rex was employed several years ago at the Willard City Schools, in the cafeteria. She was a volunteer at the Willard Municipal Hospital and the Willard Food Bank, and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing.
Mrs. Rex is survived by four children: Kenneth (Patricia Wade) Rex of Fairfield, OH, Barbara (Wayne) Thomas of Crest Hill, IL, Janet Painter and George Scortia of Dayton, OH and Jeannine (Richard) Snay of Willard; 11 grandchildren; and six step grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers: Arlyn and Fred Newhouse; sister: Gladys Walter; and grandson: Kevin Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, February 14, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church in Willard, with the Rev. Doug Beggs officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven. Friends may call Friday 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service, at 12:00 noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice or the First United Methodist Church, through the funeral home. The arrangements are in care of the Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Service, 323 Myrtle Ave., Willard.
