MANSFIELD: Reverend Dr. George E. Lambert, age 74, resident of Mansfield, died Friday, March 21, 2014 at his home.
Born August 18, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the oldest son of Hugh and Florence (Dietrich) Lambert. He graduated in 1961 from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1965 received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from The Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. On June 13, 1965, he was ordained at his home church, Hope Lutheran Church in Dayton. He was called to serve as a pastor to Zion and Mt. Zion Churches in Homerville and Spencer, Ohio from 1965 to 1968. He was called to serve Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fairfield, Ohio from 1968 to 1980. In 1971 he received his Master of Sacred Theology from the same seminary. He was called to serve Good Hope Lutheran Church, Boardman, Ohio from 1980 to 1990. Meanwhile, he received his Doctor of Ministry in 1986 from Trinity Lutheran Seminary. His last call was to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Mansfield, Ohio serving from 1990 to 2002.
Rev. Lambert formally served as president of the board of Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville, Ohio; served as the Secretary of the Transition Team of the Northeastern Synod during the formation of the The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America from 1986 to 1987; formally served as president of the Ohio Council of Churches in Columbus; was president of the board for Oesterlen Services for Youth in Springfiled, Ohio and served on many other boards and agencies.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam (Ward) Lambert whom he wed August 5, 1961; two children, Linda (Rev. Robert) Ferro of Cleveland and Paul (Debra) Lambert of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, David, Anna and Rebekah Ferro, Zack, Alex and Emily Lambert; one brother, Elden (Sue) Lambert of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; one sister, Ruth Lambert of Dayton, sister-in-law, Katie Lambert of Dayton, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kehm Lambert of Dayton and niece, Kathy Lambert.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway, Shelby, Ohio. Reverend Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Muhlenberg Township Cemetery, Darbyville, Ohio near Circleville. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to Cambridge Home Health, First Lutheran Church, Shelby; Oesterlen Services for Youth, Inc., Springfield, Ohio or Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio.
