MANSFIELD: Longtime Mansfield area resident Glennia Boyer passed away November 21, 2012 at the Western Reserve Masonic Nursing Home following a prolonged illness. Born January 21, 1919 in Monroe County Tennessee, she was the oldest of thirteen children. She served as an RN in the Navy Nurse Corps during WWII. Released from active duty in 1946, she moved to the Mansfield area with her husband, Al Boyer.
She became a teacher and subsequently retired from the Madison School system. She then proceeded to fulfill her second life's ambition to become a Nurse Practitioner (NP). After completing her Internship in the Appalachian foothills, she supervised a medical clinic in the Aleutian Islands and subsequently moved to Brownsville, Texas where she continued her second career as a NP.
She enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting as well as traveling throughout the United States and to such faraway locations as New Zealand, Australia and Thailand.
Her husband, Alfred Charles Boyer and her oldest son, Charles (Skip) Boyer preceded her in death. A son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mika Boyer of Ontario, OH, and two grandchildren Michelle Baker of Ontario OH & Seanessy Boyer of Charleston SC. In addition three great grandchildren Tristan, Hayden and Ryland survive her, along with numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to join the family in a memorial/celebration of her life of service to her students and patients, which will be conducted in the Eastern Star Chapter Room of the Mansfield Masonic Temple on Lexington Ave, Monday, January 21, 2013 at 5:00 pm. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her name, be sent the Western Reserve Masonic Home, 4931 Nettleton Rd. Medina, OH 44256, to help care for others less fortunate than her.
