ASHLAND: James Edward Taylor, 78 of Ashland passed away, Monday, February 11, 2013 in the Hospice House following an extended illness.
He was born June 17, 1934 in Ashland to the late Bernard Roy and Hazel (nee Ledman) Taylor. Jim graduated from Ashland High School, class of 1952. Jim would marry the love of his life, the former Mary Sue Urban on June 27, 1954.
A switch gear engineer, he retired after 40 years as a second generation employee from Ideal Electric in Mansfield. Jim was a devoted member of the First Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon and also played on the softball league. He was a 36 year member of the E.L.K.S, lodge #1360 of Ashland. To say that Jim was an avid outdoorsman would be an understatement. He enjoyed hunting in Canada and the Dakotas, fishing, golfing, and riding horses with his daughters and friends. Jim also enjoyed bowling and helping friends make maple syrup. One of his greatest passions was farming with his father and neighbors. He also on more than one occasion would purchase an old tractor and work hard to restore it, making it like new. Animals played a significant role in his life, a love that was passed onto his children.
Jim accomplished many things in his life and enjoyed numerous things, but his greatest accomplishment of all was his wonderful family and friends he made throughout his lifetime.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Sue Taylor of Ashland; three daughters, Linda (Greg) Knight of Bellefontaine, Lisa (Peter) Snyder, D.V.M. of Ashland, and Karen (Brian) Dravenstott of Ashland; one son, Michael (Maureen) Taylor of Ashland; four grandchildren, Katie (Brian) Spata, Jay (Lisa) Knight, and Megan and Chase Dravenstott; two great- granddaughters, Peyton and Taylor Spata; one sister, Carol (Robert) Ryland of Brookville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mary Ann Taylor; one infant brother, Phillip Taylor; and two sisters, Patricia Kahl and Nancy Riley.
