LEXINGTON: Joan J. "Jo" Slike, 72, of Lexington, OH, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at her residence.
Born in Carey, Ohio on November 8, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Teel C., Sr. and Agatha M. (Krantz) Slike.
She is survived by her younger brother, Teel (Janet) Slike, Jr.; she will be dearly missed by her best friend of 30 years, Suzette Hawk.
Joan was a graduate of Carey High School. She graduated from Bluffton College with her BA degree. She continued her education at Findlay College, Miami of Ohio and Tennessee University. She had master credit in art, biology and chemistry. She taught art at all Willard Elementary Schools for 30 years.
She loved to travel and had been to all 50 states, including many state parks. Joan taught tennis lessons at Findlay and Shelby YMCA. She was an avid golfer, professional potter and learned stained glass making, basket weaving and fusion glass making. She worked pottery under Charles Count for two years. She was a Shelby YMCA and Lakewood Racquet Club member for almost 30 years. She was a lifetime WTA member.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 9-11:00 a.m. at STOMBAUGH~BATTON FUNERAL HOME, Carey. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. John Stowe OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
