Josiah Galat Obituary

Josiah Scott Galat

MANSFIELD: Josiah Galat's passion in life - all he really wanted to do - was to make children and old people laugh. He had the wonderful talent of saying just the right thing to get a smile. His quick and spontaneous humor was also intelligent and creative. Josiah found humor where others missed it.

Josiah was a child of The Most High. He tweeted Wednesday morning, "for my 21st birthday I want to have a beer with Jesus." Though another intended evil by cutting short Josiah's earthly life, Josiah was never separated from the love of his Heavenly Father. He went to be with the Lord, in fellowship with Jesus, Wednesday evening December 19, 2012 from the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was 20 years old.

Born Josiah Scott Galat January 2, 1992 in Mansfield, he attended Lexington schools and Pioneer Career & Technology Center. In high school he played 9th grade football, lettered all four years on the swim team, and graduated in 2010. For 13 summers, he swam and dove for the Clear Fork Pool. He also was the team's dive coach.

In order to organize his life, Josiah needed lots of activities, so he filled his calendar with school, work and athletics. He started college at Ashland University, where he was on the swim & dive team and studied special education teaching. He transferred to the University of Toledo this year, where he was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. He played for the Toledo Celtics Rugby Club, winning their regular-season league title with a 6-0 record. While a full-time college student, he worked third shift loading trucks for UPS, and was working toward the goal of acceptance into Officer Candidate School of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Josiah was always seeking acceptance and love. He did so by giving acceptance and love to everyone he met. He tried to please others. He tried so hard and wanted to be good, but didn't care what others thought of him. His often silly off-the-cuff remarks, Josiah-isms, were endearing and often produced smiles. Also, if there was a thunderstorm, he relished being out in it, experiencing God's nature.

A complex person, he will be remembered as a sweet, sometimes stubborn and always humorous young man who was tenderhearted and protective of those with handicaps.

Awaiting their reunion in eternity with Josiah are his loving family. His immediate family of six shared a love that was unconditional and unwavering, a love they all securely relished. Awaiting are his parents Mike and Sheila (Scott) Galat of Mansfield; his brothers, all of Mansfield, Alexander Galat,(OSU), Mason Galat, (MIDN 4/C at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis), and Jared Galat; grandparents Dan & Lois (Haring) Galat of Mansfield, Merritta Scott of Canal Fulton and Jason Scott of Frisco, TX; aunts and uncles John & Laurie Galat of Ocala, FL, Ruth & Kim Maurer of Lexington, Steve & Colleen Galat of Mishawaka, IN, Tim & Sarah Galat of Mansfield, Dan & Heather Galat of Tenwek, Kenya, Africa, Jene Bauman of Columbus and Jason & Carrie Scott of Frisco, TX; and numerous cousins, extended family members and cherished friends.

The Galat family will receive friends Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 1 to 6 p.m. in Ontario Christian Fellowship, 636 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The worship service, giving glory to God for the life of Josiah Galat will be held Thursday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the church building, with his uncle Kim Maurer officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Josiah Scott Galat Memorial Fund may be made at the funeral.

The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Galat family, and private messages of sympathy, love and warm Josiah stories may be made online at:www.snyderfuneralhomes.com

Josiah came into our lives on Fathers Day. He brought an infectious smile but no shoes. His outlook on life was optimistic yet unguarded. As he spent more time at the house he taught us to enjoy the pages of our lives. We are so blessed to have known him! Our heart's are saddened. But know we will see him again. Our prayers, thoughts and support go out to Jo's family and friends.

Our families thoughts and prayers are with the entire Galat family in your time of loss. On earth, Josiah shared his faith via his spontaneous humor, tremendous wisdom and his unlimited caring heart. The decorations and accomplishments he earned on earth will not compare with the reception he with surely receive in heaven. He will certainly be missed but remembered by so many.
