HOWARD: On May 3, 2014, Judy Elaine Fields, age 66, of Howard, went home to meet her Savior after a brief illness. She was born on June 24, 1947 in Mansfield to the late Harlon and Doris Marie (Kleinknecht) Bridges.
Judy graduated from Madison High School in 1965. She was a member of the drama club, appearing in the play "Bye, Jupiter" as a pushy saleswoman. Judy was also a member of the FHA and marching band playing the flute. Upon graduation, she worked briefly at General Industries in Bellville. She then took a job at Hartman Electric in Mansfield where she met her husband Billy Eugene Fields. It was a match made in Heaven. The two eloped to Monroe, Michigan on April 1, 1967.
Judy was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother and cook. Many summers she would can over 1000 quarts of vegetables from her vast garden. Her passion in life was caring for her children. She was very active in church, teaching for a number of years the "Space Cubs" class for children ages 3 - 5 at Clearfork Alliance Church. Judy loved the theater and was a season ticket holder at the Renaissance Theater and the Mansfield Play House.
Judy and Bill were foster parents for nine years and were voted Foster Family of the Year. Later in life she re-entered the workforce at McDonald's and at the Hannah Browning Home. She earned her Associate Degree at OSU in applied science in human services while working at Knox County Headstart. Judy also served on the Board of Directors for New Directions for many years.
She is survived by loving husband of 47 years, Bill Fields; four sons, Scott (Kim) Fields of Mount Vernon, Shane (Kathy) Fields of Fredericktown, Skyler (Carla) Fields and Sherrod (Rachael) Fields both of Centerburg; 14 grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Colton, Trevor, Katie, Kara, Travis, Sidney, Makenzie, Courtlyn, Allyson, Holly, Franco and Minka. Judy was preceded in death by her grandson Tyler Shane Fields.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 2:00PM at The Church of God, 13160 Henry Road, Mount Vernon with Pastor Jason Harding officiating. At Judy's request, you are encouraged to wear her favorite color purple to celebrate her life.
The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Homes are handling the arrangements for the Fields family.
