Lenzie W. McKenzie

SHELBY: Lenzie W. McKenzie, age 85, of Shelby, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Crestwood Care Center in Shelby.

He was born November 29, 1926 in Shelby the son of the late Lonzie H. and Roxie M. (Tackett) McKenzie, Sr. and was a 1944 graduate of Shelby High School. Lenzie was an Army veteran of World War II where he had been an office aide to General Douglas MacArthur. Recently, he received his Gold Medallion for his years of service in World War II. He retired from ArcelorMittal after 30 years of service; Then, for the next twelve years he worked for the City of Shelby in the street department. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelby.

Lenzie is survived by his son: Gary (Sherry) McKenzie of Mansfield; his daughter: Linda McKenzie of Sandusky; 2 grandchildren: Melanie Benepe of Shiloh and Gary Paul McKenzie of Lexington; 3 great grandchildren: Ashley McKenzie, Gary Shane McKenzie and Logan Benepe; a step son: David Ujlaky of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Mary Frances (Greene) McKenzie in 1965; his second wife: Ila L. (Donley) McKenzie in 1997 and by a brother: Lonzie McKenzie, Jr.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby were funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 AM with Pastor Lester Champer officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with full military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial expressions may be made to the .
