SHELBY: W. Nadine Morris, age 77, resident of Shelby, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family following a brief battle with cancer.
Born April 20, 1936 in Shiloh to Alva and Hazel (Wayt) Laser she had been a lifelong area resident. A 1954 graduate of Shiloh High School, she was employed in food service with Isaly's Dairy in Shelby, Farrell's IGA in Tiro, Cornell's IGA, Great Scot and Lazarus Restaurant retiring in 2000. An accomplished cook and baker, she ran "Deanie's Pastry Shop" out of her home for many years.
Nadine was a member of the First United Church of Christ where she served as treasurer. She was a member of the Daughters' of the American Revolution, Shelby Geneological Society and the Shelby Area Democratic Club where she also served as treasurer.
She volunteered her time with many agencies including the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. A talented seamstress, she loved to sew and crochet making numerous Quilts of Valor, hats for Harmony House and baby quilts.
An avid reader, she was a "people person" who cherished her family especially her grandchildren who fondly referred to her as "Gram".
Surviving are her children, Steve (Chon) Morris of Shelby, twin daughters, Denise Naugle and Debra Morris, both of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Katie Liberti, Emily Homan, Allison Naugle, Eric Morris, Diana Nadine Morris, Tyler Morris, and Laura Morris; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Zoey Morris; special family member of 59 years, Jane (Jim) Pryne of Port Angeles, WA; five siblings, Eldora Wolford of Plymouth, Juanita Baker of Mansfield, Alfred "Buster" Laser of Greeley, CO; Della Kaple of Galion and Tom Laser of Gettysburg, PA; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Morris, Jr. in 1999 and her sister, Mary Davis.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Red Cross, 39 N. Park St., Mansfield, OH 44902.
