SHELBY: R. Gault Aurand Jr., 84, of Shelby, passed away Thursday evening, June 13, 2013 in his home with his wife and family by his side. Gault was born September 30, 1928, in Rittman, in his home to the late R. Gault and Blanche Miller (nee Craig) Aurand Sr.
Gault graduated from Rittman High School in 1946. He attended Ashland College where he majored in Chemistry, and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. He later graduated with a Masters degree in Business Administration. Gault joined the National Guard in 1948, and served in the 37th division when they were activated in 1951 in Germany. Gault married the love his life, Muriel Anne (Nee Boardman) on October 21, 1950.
Gault worked at Ohio Steel Tube in Shelby, from 1953 till he retired in 1988. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Shelby, Park Street Brethren Church in Ashland, where they served as deacons for many years, and then attended Garber Brethren Church the last three years.
Gault built their own home on Boyce Rd., Shelby. He loved any Science magazine, fishing, working on cars, and enjoyed art. He supported and attended Ashland Symphony Orchestra Concerts. He enjoyed playing the Tuba in many community bands. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his four children, 14 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. There are two great-grandchildren due this summer.
In addition to his wife, Muriel, of 62 years, Gault will be deeply missed by his children; Muriel Anne (Benjamin) Baith of Mansfield, Alyssa Kay Gomes of Hawaii, Victoria Lee (Tony) Lieb of Lakeville, and Rufus G. Aurand III, of Galion. In addition to his parents, Gault was preceded in death by infant daughter Marcia Louise Aurand; brother Dale Aurand; sister Dorothy and brother-in law Carl Adams; son-in law Henry Gomes; and two best friends James Kanehl and Ray Twinem.
Celebration of Life services will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in Garber Brethren Church, 163 Sherman Ave., Ashland, Ohio 44805, with Pastor Timothy Craver officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Denbow-Primm-Kemery funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Edwin Boardman Memorial Scholarship, at Ashland University, Ashland Symphony Orchestra, or Garber Brethren Church.
