LUCAS: Robert "Butch" VanTilburg, age 72, of Lucas, passed away early Sunday evening, January 13, 2013. He was born September 26, 1940 in Mansfield to the late Robert G. and Ann F. (Turich) VanTilburg. Butch retired as Yardmaster in January 2001 from Norfolk-Southern Railroad with 41 years of railroad service. He also worked for Atlantic Coastline Railroad, Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central Railroad, and Conrail. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society since 1982. Butch was an avid rail fan, specializing in photography of trains and model railroading. Also known as "Bobby", he never met a stranger and through his friendly demeanor leaves behind many beloved friends of diverse backgrounds. Anyone willing to lend an ear to Butch was in for a great storytelling session.
He is survived by two children, Marc (Debra) VanTilburg and Keli Dotson; six grandchildren, Nicole and Brittany VanTilburg, Jessica and Kyle Lape, Trevor and Dakota Dotson; and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Constance VanTilburg and a grandson, Ryan Lape.
A funeral service conducted by Pastor Craig Hamm will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Friends and family may visit beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial in Windsor Park Cemetery will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Richland County.
