Ronald E. Ocheltree

BELLVILLE: Ron Ocheltree loved running dogs. Those dogs were not his whole life, but they made his life whole. He loved their companionship in hunting and their wagging tails were constant approval.

Ron Ocheltree passed away late Saturday evening December 28, 2013 in his home near Bellville. He was 57.

Born October 16, 1956 in Mansfield, he was the only son of Spurgeon E. and Janice (Furby) Ocheltree, and was graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1974. He remained a lifelong area resident and worked more than 30 years in heavy assembly with Gorman Rupp.

He loved running dogs and hunting so much, he shared that interest with all the men in his family, teaching all of his nephews and grandsons hunting and gun safety. Ron must have cut thousands of cords of firewood, and loved being outdoors riding his motorcycle.

Ron spent many years active with the Bellville Youth League, coaching both Justin's baseball and Nikki's softball teams, and remained active playing on softball teams for years.

He was a member of Palmyra Church of Christ, and liked sharing his deep faith in God - and his conservative politics - with those close to him. Though he had many distractions - his dogs, hunting, softball - nothing was closer to Ron's heart than spending time with his family.

Ron was a generous man, always able to help a friend in need, and was cherished by his family. He is survived by his son Justin (Haley) Ocheltree of Mansfield; his daughter Nikki Fisher of Fredericktown; grandchildren Seth Fisher, C.J. Fisher, Mason Bennett and Isarae Ocheltree; his mother Janice Ocheltree of Bellville; sisters Vicki (Pat) Hartson of Hartville and Deb (Chris) Oyster of Bellville; his former wife Patsy Ocheltree of Fredericktown; numerous nieces and nephews, two uncles and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The Ocheltree family will receive friends Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where his memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. His son Justin will speak, assisted by his brother-in-law Pat Harston, Minister.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions in Ron's memory to either the Richland or Knox County Humane Societies, and may be made at the funeral home.

Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Ocheltree family and messages of sympathy and support may be made to them online at: SnyderFuneralHomes.com
