Sara M. Bachelder

LEXINGTON: Sara Bachelder was a thanks-giver. She embraced Paul's admonition to the Thessalonians: "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Sara viewed every situation through the framework of God's love, His eternal plan of redemption, and His grace. She actively thanked God for the many blessings in her life: "I'm so thankful for my family!" Her signature attitude was gratitude.

As in life, Sara was blessed in death, and peacefully passed away Sunday morning February 17, 2013 in her Lexington home. She was 91.

Born Sara M. Culp December 31, 1921 in Richland County, she was the only child of Claude and Edna (Gable) Culp. Sara was graduated from Lexington High School in 1939 where she was a cheerleader all four years, and remained a lifelong resident.

On August 19, 1942 she married Virgil E. Bachelder, and together they raised their family in the village of Lexington. Sara and Virg were active in the Lexington community, in clubs, on committees, in the schools - everyone in the village not only knew Sara and Virg, but thought very highly of them.

Sara was active with the Eastern Stars, Richland County Board of Elections and Lexington Presbyterian Church. When she and Virg moved their membership to the Lexington Church of Christ, they actively served the congregation.

Remembered as a prayer warrior, Sara's signature look was her apron, it befit her personality as a servant. Whether baking cookies and pies (her pie crust was so good, it didn't need ice cream), or working on another home project, Sara lived a content life serving her family, her church and her community.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law ("I'm so thankful for my boys") Philip C. & Karen Bachelder and Dr. Bruce E. & Cathy Bachelder all of Lexington; grandchildren Kimberly & Aaron Ivy, Jennifer & Mark Barler, Stacy & George Davis, Tim Bachelder and Dr. Robert & Autumn Bachelder; great grandchildren Caleb Ivy, Cassidy Ivy, Breanna Feldhake, Samantha Feldhake, Jackie Barler and Avery Sara Bachelder; her church family; and a community of friends.

Her beloved Virgil preceded her in death on October 3, 1998.

The Bachelder family will receive friends Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m. Pastor Tj Waters will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Lexington Church of Christ for the Round Lake Church Camp scholarships, and may be made at the funeral home.

Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Bachelder family, and private condolences to them may be made online at: www.snyderfuneralhomes.com
