Thomas Bloor Obituary
Thomas H. Bloor

MANSFIELD: Tom Bloor loved Mansfield. In his words: "Tom and Mansfield were partners all his life." He gave his time and talents to ensure the city's prosperity and leaves behind structures and foundations that will continue to operate thanks to his attention to detail and kindness.

Thomas H. Bloor of Marion Avenue, Mansfield passed away peacefully in his home early Monday morning, November 18, 2013. He was 83.

Born March 31, 1930 in Mansfield, Tom was the son of J. William and Miriam (Rife) Bloor. He was graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1947 where he was a star basketball and tennis player. Tom earned a degree in Philosophy and Religion from Amherst College in 1951.

Mr. Bloor was President, owner and operator of the Caldwell Bloor Company. He was an athlete, a U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant (serving in the Korean War) and an avid card player.

His lasting legacy and gift to Mansfield is the Southwest Little League Complex at Sterkle Field on Lexington Avenue. He not only raised the money for the construction and served as treasurer for many years, but also spent a great deal of time umpiring there.

In addition to his membership at First United Methodist Church where he served as church Treasurer, he was affiliated with the 51 Club (secretary for 47 years), the Conard Foundation (Vice Chairman for many years), the Healthy Industry Distributors Association (Chairman), Mansfield Building and Loan, Board of Lumbermans-Mansfield Mutual Insurance Company, Board of Richland Bank (38 years, 10 as Chairman), Republican Richland County Finance Chairman (10 years), and many more.

He is survived by son William M. (Merrill) Bloor of Plymouth, MA; daughter Laura Lee (Adam) Townsend of San Clemente, CA; a daughter-in-law Lisa Bloor of Huron; his adored sister Linda B. Barkett and her husband Dr. Robert Barkett of Mansfield; three grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Bloor was preceded in death by his son Jep Bloor.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in First United Methodist Church at N. Diamond and Park Avenue East. Interment will follow at Mansfield Cemetery.
