MANSFIELD: Timothy Dean McClaran, 64, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday November 21, 2013. Born June 7, 1949 in Wooster, Ohio, he was the son of the late Marion and Jeanne (Miller) McClaran.
Tim grew up in Shreve, Ohio and graduated from Madison High School in 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1970. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including a Purple Heart medal.
Following his military service, he was employed by the Richland Co. Sheriff's office from 1972 until 1975, attaining the rank of Sergeant. In 1975, Tim went to work for the Ontario Police Department, and was appointed Chief of Police in 1988. He retired in 2008, after proudly serving Ontario for 33 years. In April, 2009, he was appointed Chief of Police in Crestline, Ohio from where he retired in 2011. He was also a Special Deputy with the United States Marshal Service, as a member of the Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Hause), whom he married on June 14, 1975. They were blessed with 38 wonderful years together. Also surviving are his loving children, Ryan McClaran and Kristina (Darryl) Langshaw; and his precious granddaughter, Adalyn Langshaw. He is also survived by his brothers, Terry Jones and Ronald (Linda) McClaran; sister, Melinda (Hal) Hornyak; nieces, Dennise (Scott) Sauer, Erika (Lee) Spicer and Tawny Warnes; his nephew, Jason Hornyak; mother-in-law, Margaret Hause; and brother-in-law, Thomas (Cindy) Hause.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by infant twins; his sister, Melody McClaran; brother, Michael Christy; and sister-in-law, Marsha Hause.
Most important in Tim's life was his relationship with Jesus Christ. He was a loyal member of The First Church of God in Ontario. Tim loved spending time with his family. He was a beloved husband, loving father to his children, and devoted grandpa to his dear granddaughter, who was his pride and joy. He was an avid fisherman, and spent many hours on the lake with his dear friends, John Allen and Kenny Kahl. There is grief, but there is also hope and joy; Timothy Dean McClaran is home.
Family will receive friends and relatives from 4-7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Worship services, giving glory to God for the life of Tim, will be held at The First Church of God Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00p.m. The service with be officiated by Pastor Jeff Gray and Attorney John Allen. Burial to follow at Ontario Cemetery with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad.
