Wilbur E. "Bill" Laipply

MANSFIELD: Wilbur E. "Bill" Laipply, 94, was called to be with the Lord on January 23, 2014 after a short illness. He was born June 18, 1919 in Bucyrus, Ohio to William and Bertha (Seibert) Laipply. He was a lifelong resident of Mansfield where he lived life to the fullest and enjoyed doing things with his family and friends. He was an avid Buckeye, Cleveland Indians, and Browns fan.

He enjoyed 58 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Irene. They spent many happy days together, whether it was fishing, watching their grandchildren, shopping for bargains, or chauffeuring her to Bingo. They loved sharing their life together.

He loved hunting and fishing ~ especially deer hunting. It was a special time that he was able to share with his nephews and great nephews.

He was a World War II veteran where he served in the United States Army. It was a great honor for him to be the bugler for his infantry. He retired from the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company in 1969 and later from the Richland County Engineer's Office as a night watchman. He was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Venus Lodge, a member of the Sons of Herman, Grotto, and VFW #3494.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Bill Johnson of Maryville, Tennessee, Sandy Thompson of Mansfield, and Sherry and Dan Richardson of Crossville, Tennessee; five grandchildren and spouses, Kim and George Barley, Brent and Kim Johnson, Kelly and Jim Nightingale, Brandon and Caitlin Houston, and Bryan and Kacey Houston; eight great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, three step great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Reynolds Laipply; his brother, Alvin Laipply; sisters, Esther Brush and Mildred Donnersbach; and son-in-law, Ronald Thompson.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Robert Stull. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Central Ohio.
