James E. "Jim" Maynard

MANSFIELD: James E. "Jim" Maynard, 87, of Mansfield passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Home, following an extended illness surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

The son of Wayne and Mallie (Lemaster) Maynard, Jim was born December 31, 1926 in Louisa, Kentucky. At 17 years old, Jim moved to Mansfield and worked for Mansfield Tire and Rubber. Before serving in WWII he met and began courting Lucille Martin, who was the cousin of Jim's coworker. The two corresponded while Jim served as a paratrooper in the Army's 11th Airborne Division.

Following WWII and after his honorable discharge, Jim and Lucille were married in Kentucky on December 14, 1946. Shortly after, in 1952, Jim and his family moved to Mansfield, where he returned to Mansfield Tire and Rubber. Jim later worked for A.K. Steel, where he retired in 1990. Wanting to remain busy, he also worked for Sprint, transporting vehicles from office to office.

Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a wonderful knack for finding mushrooms. His secret location for mushroom hunting was close by, in northern Richland County.

Meticulous and detailed, Jim always had a well manicured lawn. He took pride in the appearance of his property. Jim also enjoyed vegetable gardening.

A wonderful grandpa and great grandpa, Jim often spoiled his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A loving husband, Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Lucille Maynard of Mansfield; daughters and a son-in-law Ernestine and Sam Ferrise and daughter Nadine Maynard of Mansfield; grandchildren Annette and Jason Voelp, Joseph James Ferrise, and Joanne and Allen Morvai; great grandchildren Sarah, Jared, Faith, and Grace Voelp, and Isla and Autumn Morvai; sisters Martha Derifield of Louisa, Kentucky, Moncie Kiser of Zephyrhills, Florida, Juanita Huntzinger of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Chris and Howard Cassin of Chillicothe; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Don and Bill Maynard.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am.
