Marlene Sue Spear

MANSFIELD: Marlene Sue Spear, 67, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday evening, February 25, 2014 at her home. She was born July 19, 1946 in Lima, Ohio to Thomas W. and Elvera A. (Rieman) Schroeder. Marlene was a case worker with Richland County Job and Family Services. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

She enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge club; eating out; shopping; traveling and spending time in Florida and Lake Erie. Marlene took special joy in spending time with her family and friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed every moment spent with them. Her beloved pet and faithful companion, Ava, was always by her side.

She is survived by three children, Jennifer (Tim) Rainey of Mansfield, Thomas W. Spear of Columbus, Jill (Jeff) Lay of Millersburg; five grandchildren, Kristina and Lisa Rainey, Aryn, Luke and Jenna Lay; her mother, Elvera A. Schroeder; three sisters, Doris (Mark) Hoffman, Theresa (Gary) Adkins and Joanne (Bill) Doudna; one brother, David (Sharon) Schroeder; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory A. Spear in 1998 and father, Thomas W. Schroeder.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be recited Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
