Donna Mae (Hodgson) Shambre

LEXINGTON: Donna Mae (Hodgson) Shambre passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a lingering illness. She was 87.

She was born in Toledo on December 3, 1926 to parents George Abner and Thema Mae (Ferguson) Hodgson. Donna selflessly gave up her senior year of high school to work in a factory during WWII.

On June 6, 1964 Donna married Frank H. Shambre and together they started a life in Lexington. Frank's job transferred him to Canal Fulton where they lived for 30 years but 2006 brought Frank's retirement and the couple returned to "home" in Lexington.

She had several jobs, but her favorite was with the Interval Brotherhood Home in Akron as an adolescent counselor where she worked for 17 years until her retirement. In spare time she enjoyed watching OSU sports (especially football), dreaming up crafty projects, and in her younger years she was quite a bowler. Above all, she treasured time with friends and family (particularly her grandkids).

Donna had a hidden talent: she and her husband took a course at OSU and she worked as a professional clown for 10 years! Her friends and family will miss her friendly sense of humor.

Donna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Canal Fulton and was a 47 year friend of Bill W.

She is survived by her loving husband of (almost) 50 years, Frank Shambre of Lexington; her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Peggy Blackledge of Fredericktown; four grandchildren and their spouses: Kristi and Rex Heffelfinger of Jeromesville, Michael P. and Jennifer Blackledge of Ashland, Lisa Burton of West Lebanon, NH, and Kara and David Yarnell of Sumter, SC; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother's wife Marjorie Hodgson of Leesburg, FL; her husband's brother and his wife Bob and Dolores Shambre of Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and many many dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her brother James Hodgson.

A memorial service remembering her life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield 44904 and her grandson Michael P. Blackledge will officiate. Burial in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington will occur at a later date.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and sent in the care of the funeral home: P.O. Box 3085, Mansfield, Ohio 44904.
