MANSFIELD: Josephine May Thompson, age 85, resident of Mansfield, went home to the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 10, 1928 in Lenox, Kentucky to Willie and Nola (Lyons) Eldridge she had been a Richland County resident the majority of her life. Josie married William C. Thompson on December 10, 1945 and had a marriage blessed with love and friendship.
She was a member of the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she cherished the time spent with her family always putting them first. Josie enjoyed gardening and quilting, making quilts for all her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, William Thompson; two daughters, Carol McClain of Mansfield and Phyllis Schuck of Southern Pines, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Susan) McClain, Brett (Amy) McClain, Carol (Aaron) Mullins, Shaun (Betsy) Gingery, Kara (Rodney) Kearce, Matthew Birky and Casey Schuck, 16 great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one sister, Wanda Meyers of Henderson, Nevada.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Gingery and two sons-in-law, James McClain and Richard Schuck.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Earl Tackett will officiate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM.
