Jean "Choppy" Holmes

SHILOH: Jean "Choppy" (Moser) Holmes, age 81, of Shiloh, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Kingston of Ashland following a brief illness.

Jean was born July 20, 1932 in Shiloh, the daughter of the late Vernon and Lois (Dick) Moser. She was a 1950 graduate of Shiloh High School and then went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1952 where she earned a degree in dental hygiene. It was there that she met her husband, Philip J. Holmes. They were married September 14, 1952 at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shiloh. During her marriage, Mrs. Holmes spent her life traveling the country and Europe as an Air Force wife. In 1998 Choppy retired as a dental hygienist from Walter Glenn, DDS in Shiloh. She was a member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Shiloh, Daughters of the American Revolution Jared Mansfield Chapter, Shiloh American Legion Auxiliary, and was a founding member of the Shiloh Area Historical Society where she served in various positions. She also served for several years with the Shiloh High School Alumni Association planning many alumni reunions.

Jean is survived by: 6 children: Jody (Dr. John) Jones of Fargo, ND, Mindy (Michael) Beeman of Rawlings, MD, Stacy Holmes of Nashville, TN, Dr. Erin Holmes (Dr. Samuel Gingrich) Anchorage, AK, Gretchen (Michael) Huttleston of Shiloh, Kelly (Rodney) Snyder of Shiloh; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a niece: Deborah (Dawson) Wolfe of NY; and 2 cousins: Pamela Moser of Shelby, Daryl Moser of Atlanta, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a sister, Janice Dawson; a daughter-in-law: Angela (Ellis) Holmes; and a nephew: Mark Dawson.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 11 AM at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 29 West Main Street, Shiloh, with Pastor Blanche Tyree officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shiloh. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Hope Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund or S.T.O.P. in Mansfield, 1152 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44907.

Choppy's favorite color was purple. Her family is requesting that all guests wear something purple in her honor.
