MANSFIELD: Oliver Holt, Jr., 91, passed this life Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mr. Holt was born on Tuesday, November 14, 1922 to the late Oliver Sr. and Lena Hazley Holt, Sr., Andalusia, Alabama and had lived in Mansfield the past 71 years. He retired from the Mansfield Tire Company after 34 years of service. Oliver was a founding and faithful member of the Greater St. John COGIC now known as Oasis Of Love Church where he served on the Deacon Board and was the oldest living Deacon of the church. Prior to his health failing he enjoyed shopping with his late friend Prince Rooks.
Oliver is survived by four children: Julia M. Owens, Oliver (Colleen) Holt, III, and Lena E. Addai, Mansfield, and Mary (Stephen) K. Ofori, Huntington, West Virginia; 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Oliver Holt Sr. and Lena Holt Brown Muhammad; Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Morris Holt; two daughters, Ruby Holt, Nancy Darby; seven siblings, Ruth Hayes, Maryam Holt-Habeebullah, Mable Morrison, Pauline Smith, Otto, Sam, Sr. and Paul Sr.
Friends may call Thursday at the Oasis of Love Church one hour prior to the funeral service. The Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. with his pastor Dr. Walter E. Jordan, II officiating. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter Julia, 792 Burns St. from 1-8 p.m. daily till the day of service.
