MANSFIELD: Leota Alvina (Zellner) Au of Mansfield, OH, went home with her Lord and Savior on May 21, 2014 after suffering a devastating stroke. She was 93 and a half years young.
She was born in Mansfield on September 29, 1920 to Henry Otis and Birdie Elizabeth (Schaffer) Zellner. Leota lived in Mansfield all her life.
She married husband Emerson R. Au on September 21, 1940. They were married for 52 years. Leota graduated from Mansfield Senior High School with the class of 1938. She worked and retired as a line inspector of 27 years with Hartmann Electric Manufacturing. Leota loved to read, sing, crochet, and especially loved to spend special, loving times with her family members. She crocheted with love, an afghan for each of her ten grandchildren, and many doilies and ornaments that she shared with others. She had a love for life and all the simple pleasures it has to offer.
Leota is survived by her four children, Rev. Jerry (Virginia) Au of Mt. Washington, KY, Barbara (Michael L.) Gibson of Mansfield, Jesse O. (Terry) Au of Bothell, WA, and David R. Au of Stewart, FL; ten grandchildren, Andy (Jen) Au, Amy (Brian) Kramer, Michael A. Gibson, Christy Belcher, Jesse Au, David Au, Aaron Au, Daron Au, Stephanie Preston-Fogle, and Courtney Nabb; twelve great-grandchildren, Autumn, Ruby, April, Christopher, Brinnley, Dilan, Kayla, Brandon, Josh, Logan, Zak, and Connor; and three great-great-grandchildren, Dillon, Tannie Marie, and Norbert.
She was preceded in death by loving family, her husband in 1994; parents, and sisters, Clara Casler, Phila Bonin, Pearl Portner, Marie Stutz, Esther Hildebrand, Melba Metzger, and Delores Teschler.
Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Jane Stout, will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends are invited to visit for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
