MANSFIELD: David James Kulig, 38, of Mansfield, died early Wednesday morning, May 28, 2014 at his home. Born April 25, 1976 in Pusan, South Korea, he was the son of James and Jean (Heyl) Kulig.
David graduated from Ashland High School in 1994 and attended The Ohio State University earning an Associate Degree in English. He was the proprietor of the Eclectic Tempo where he taught poetry, music, magic, art and pool. David was a great magician and musician having played the guitar, piano and trumpet. He enjoyed playing ping pong, especially the regular games with his dad. David was a past member of the Eagles, Moose and Elks Lodges and a current member of the International Society of Magicians.
David was courageous in his process of recovering from mental illness and a supportive friend to many who are on a similar journey. He saw the good in everyone and never met a stranger. David will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his parents, Jim and Jean (Heyl) Kulig; a sister, Lisa (Tom) Kennedy; a brother, Michael (Stephanie) Kulig; his paternal grandparents, Adolph and Rita Kulig; an aunt, Pat Crane; and a special uncle, Ken Kulig. David was a devoted uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews and was a non-judgemental friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Pauline Heyl; his uncle, Mike Crane; and a dear friend, Ben Westfall.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield with Rev. Paul Lintern officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00. Burial will follow in Pavonia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richland County NAMI located at 420 Stewart Lane, Mansfield, OH 44907 or The Center for Individual and Family Services located at 741 Scholl Rd, Mansfield, OH 44907.
