Helen Dail Thatcher Crill

BUTLER: Helen Crill attributed her longevity to her daily diet of green onions and garlic, always baking with lard and serving up ultra-sweet tea. At the regal age of 101, Helen Dail (Thatcher) Crill, of Butler, passed away early Friday morning surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.

Helen was born June 26, 1913 in Cavallo, Ohio to Charles & Elizabeth (Hunt) Thatcher. She married Robert Nelson Crill who preceded her in death in November of 1973, and she lived most of her life in Butler.

Helen began her career in Cleveland as a private housekeeper before accepting a position with the B&O Railroad where she performed many duties. After moving to Butler in 1951 she started working as a waitress at Zeds. She retired from Hitchman's Grocery with 27 years of service. Helen was an avid Clear Fork Colts Fan, crocheting many blankets for the Clear Fork football fans and was still attending home games at the young age of 99. She was also well known for her butterscotch pies that she baked and donated to the boosters club for bingo nights. Helen loved reading, gardening and most of all, spending time with her family.

Helen is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law Robert Lee Crill of Butler and Joe & Susan Crill of Bellville, a daughter and son-in-law Carolyn & Tom Ellis of Bellville; nine grandchildren and their spouses Dave & Lori Crill of Florida, Annette Jones of Ontario, Doug Crill of Butler, Kim & Jim Jackson of Bellville, Stacy & Rob Dawson of Lexington, Monica Ellis of Butler, Todd & Aemee Ellis of Ashland, James & Jill Jarvis of Westminster, SC, and Caree & Chris Bash of Westerville; twenty great-grandchildren Meghan & Josh Mader of Florida, USMC Cpl Josh Crill of San Diego, CA, Lana Jones of Chicago, IL, Skyler and Casey Jones of Ontario, Camryn Crill of Butler, Savanah and Jay Jackson of Bellville, Carly and Bryce Stillion and Chloe Sackreiter all of Butler, Kiersten, Abbey and Nate Dawson of Lexington, Gracie and Ty Ellis of Ashland, Adelaine & Avik Bash of Westerville, Jameson and Jace Jarvis of Westminster, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
