LOUDONVILLE: Leona Cecilia Drouhard, 91, of Loudonville, housewife, mother and volunteer, died Sunday morning, June 22, 2014 in Brookwood Place at Brethren Care Village, Ashland, after an extended illness.
Leona was born August 7, 1922 in Massillon, the daughter of the late Leo J. and Lena (Geibel) Grosswiller. She grew up in Massillon and was a 1940 graduate of Massillon Washington High School where she prided herself in being a majorette in the Massillon Washington Tiger Swing Band during the Paul Brown coach era in Massillon. She moved to Loudonville from Massillon in 1947 and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Loudonville, where she was a past member of the St. Peter Ladies Guild and the National Council of Catholic Women. She had also attended St. Edward Catholic Church, Ashland. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, assisting with the blood drives. She had also volunteered as a majorette instructor for the Loudonville High School Band. On November 29, 1941 she married Warren Drouhard, Sr., and he died April 29, 1998. Her family and her Catholic faith were most dear to her, and her passion was the game of golf which she played extremely well. She was proud to have taught many to play the game.
She is survived by her children: Colonel Warren (Elin) Drouhard, Jr. (USAF Ret.) of Lexington, Dr. Thomas Drouhard of Flagstaff, AZ, Linda (Steve) Franko of Green Cove Springs, FL, Patrick (Becky) Drouhard of Cardington and Richard (Dianna) Drouhard of Perrysville; 13 grandchildren;11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Mildred (Paul) Speight of Akron and Carol (Ron) Tynan of Massillon; and a brother, Leo (Carole) Grosswiller of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, her step-father, Earl Brewer; three sisters, Delores and Thelma Grosswiller, Jean Gardner and her husband John Gardner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 26 at 10:00am in St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Vincent Hawk officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm in LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE, where prayers will begin at 7:45pm.
