Joanne E. Shepard

CRESTLINE: Joanne E. Shepard, 74, of 623 John Street, Crestline, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Hospice of North Central Ohio after a long illness.

Joanne was born in Chesterville on July 28, 1939 to the late Hiram and Ruth (Lay) Tyrrell. She married Melvin L. Shepard on August 6, 1960 and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2008.

Joanne was a 1957 graduate of Crestline High School and enjoyed attending lunch with the 57 club. Joanne was a member of the United Methodist Church, Crestline and belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #859, Crestline. She retired as an assistant manager at Speedway, Crestline where she worked for many years. Joanne's family was her number one priority. You could find her at every event her grandchildren participated in and she was known by everyone as "Grandma". "Grandma" would bring her snack bag with her for everyone to enjoy. Her illness rarely kept her from being at her grandchildren's many activities. Joanne loved eating out on Tuesday with her friends and going to the Eagles. Her pastimes included playing Bingo and scratching off lottery tickets. You could often find Joanne "garage saling" or going on gambling trips with her friends at the Eagles. Joanne loved to cook and bake and would prepare Sunday suppers for her family. At Christmas she would bake a variety of cookies and shared them with friends and family. Every year she looked forward to spending time in Tennessee for Thanksgiving with her family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dawn and Doug Manring, Crestline and Missi and Chad Miller, Crestline; her six grandchildren, Brian Harvey, Katelyn Harvey, Blake Miller, Spencer Miller, Danielle Manring, Troy Manring, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Richard Tyrrell and Robert Tyrrell, and her two sisters, Roberta Burkhart and Helen Winder.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Mark A.
