Paul James Ackerman

DANVILLE: Paul James Ackerman, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 5, 2014. He was born October 8, 1946 in Mansfield to the late Florence Oley Ackerman and Ray Ackerman. Paul graduated in 1965 from Crestview High School and worked for 20 years at Westinghouse Corp. He later retired from Rhino where he worked as a cabinet maker and had worked as a farmer for many years as well. His hard-working nature was evident in the landscape of his home. He not only maintained his own property but mowed the grass and shoveled snow for his church and neighbors.

Paul served the Lord his entire life and was a devoted Christian who enjoyed reading his Bible. He was very dedicated to his church, Crossroads of Life in Danville and lived his life as a servant of God. He was a superior single father who set a loving and lasting example of being a "gentleman" to his children. Paul kept everything neat and tidy and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He was a "Mr. Fix It" and could repair anything set before him, including cars and trucks.

He is survived by two sons, Steve (Amy) Ackerman of Shelby and Tim Ackerman of Mansfield; a daughter, Wendy Ackerman (fiancé, Chris Steagall) of Mansfield; twelve grandchildren, Heather, Brooke, Rachel, Emily, Peggy and Shelby Ackerman, Devin, Dylan and Courtney Batdorf, Trevin Kehl, and Aries and Zion Steagall; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Leslie) Ackerman of CO; his nieces and other cherished family and church friends; and his former wife and mother of his children, Joanne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ackerman.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads of Life Church, 8 E. South St., Danville, OH 43014.
