Robert J. Ritter

MANSFIELD: Robert J. Ritter of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 12, 2014, while attending a family reunion in Bath, NY.

Robert was born on January 15, 1938 in Ulysses, PA, to Walter Sr. and Grace (Baumgartner) Ritter. He was the Valedictorian of his class at Eastern Nazarene College, Boston, MA, and retired in 2002 from CSX Railroad in Willard after 35 years of service. Robert was a member of Diamond Hill Cathedral.

He is survived by the love of his life, and his soul mate, Margaret "Peggy" (Schwebel Lady) Ritter; four children, very special daughter and caregiver, Sheila (Jerrold Sr.) Myers of Mansfield, Barbara (Kevin) Steinhour of OH, David (Maria) Ritter of WA, and Beverly Ritter of OH; 19 grandchildren, Jerrold Jr, Samantha Jo, and Jacob Robert-W Myers, all of Mansfield, Andrea of Norfolk, VA, Sarah (John) Milton of Mansfield, Corey Campbell of Columbus, Cody Campbell of Toledo, Eryn Campbell of Mansfield, Shane (Samantha) Steinhour of SD, Ryan Steinhour of NE, Drew Steinhour of OH, Angelica (James) Thompson of WA, Joshua and David Jr Ritter of WA, and Nathaniel, Tyler, Caitlin, Alyssa, and Sierra Ritter all of OH; five great-grandchildren, Matthew James Myers, Scarlet Rae and Joyce Ellen Milton of Mansfield, Zoe of WA, and Alice of OH, and two on the way; four siblings, Walt Ritter of NY, Mae Barody and Nancy (Ed) Palmer of NY, and Mary Hostetler of IN; four very special church friends, Andi Schroeder, Julie Hardin, and Mike and Janice Winbigler; and most important friend and sidekick, "Peanut" his maltipoo canine friend.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, James, Paul and Nelson; and sisters, Ruth and Dorothy.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Diamond Hill Cathedral, 500 Tingley Ave. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Charles Carrier officiating. A dinner will follow in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Biblewalk in Robert's name. Private burial will be at a later date.
