Gwendolyn Jane Bowers Clark Obituary
Gwendolyn Jane Bowers Clark

MENTONE: "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed," Proverbs 31:27-28a. Gwendolyn Jane Bowers Clark went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ, August 10, 2014.

Mother, Nurse, Naturalist, Voracious Reader, Quilter, in her 87 years of life there were not many titles she was a stranger to. Gwendolyn was the second of three children born to Floyd and Vina Bowers. She was born May 13, 1927, and was always quick to remark that Friday the 13th was not unlucky because she was born on such a day. A lifelong Buckeye and proud of it, Gwen was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio. As a tall woman she often remembered being told by her mother, "Stand up straight, be proud of how tall you are."

Following graduation from Mansfield Senior High (1945), Gwen enrolled in Nurses training shortly before the end of World War II. She graduated from Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. The 50 years of devoted service to the Nurse's call gave Gwen her staunch attitude to the world of health and healing. She remembered by all as a caring and strong woman.

Gwen is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Floyd Jr.; and her step-grandson, Myron Clark.

Gwen is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Floyd Jr., and her step-grandson Myron Clark.

She is survived by five children: a stepson, Robert (Tracy) of Cardington, Ohio, three sons, Douglas (Freda) of Marengo, Ohio, Roger (Susan) of Trenton, Ohio and Brian (Joan) of Brick, New Jersey; and one daughter, Brenda (David) Anweiler of Mentone, Indiana; a sister, Loretta Miller of Springfield, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Norma Bowers of Northport, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a multitude of loved cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and especially her dear Twisted Sisters.

A memorial service will be held August 23, 2014 at 10:00 am in Mulberry Street Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, Ohio. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw was entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Ave, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington and Alaska (RMHC), 5130 40th Ave. N.E., Seattle, Washington 98105.

In 2013, Grandma was asked to write her autobiography in six words and this is what she wrote, "From Lindbergh to Mars! Goodnight Nurse!"
