Daisy Mae Lawhorn

MANSFIELD: Daisy Mae Lawhorn, 75, of Mansfield passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in Liberty Nursing Center.

Born July 30, 1939 in Gordo, Alabama, Daisy was the daughter of Grady and Stella Mae (Washington) Lawhorn. She moved to Mansfield at an early age and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.

Daisy was baptized at the age of eight in Columbus, MS and had worked at Leland Hotel.

Daisy enjoyed watching war movies, and was an avid reader. She appreciated the beauty of nature, and loved a variety of plants. An excellent cook, she served the best cornbread and black eyed peas.

An amazing mother, grandmother, and sister she is survived by her children Debbie Ann Lawhorn of Stone Mountain, GA, Sharon Kay (Cullen) Kerns of Duluth, GA, Sara LeVon Lawhorn, Mark Twain Lawhorn, and Lisha Ann Lawhorn all of Mansfield; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother Joseph Lawhorn of Rochester, NY; sister Bonnie Jefferson of Chicago, IL; two brothers Melvin Lawhorn and Larry Lawhorn of Columbus, MS; step brother Louis Glenn of Columbus, Oh; special friend Annie Smith and numerous extended family.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three children Hugh O'brien Lawhorn, Sarah Lawhorn, and Elijah Childs, Jr.; sister Murdis Colvin.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 22, 2014 from 5-8 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home 350 Marion Avenue. Funeral services celebrating the life of Daisy Mae Lawhorn will be Saturday, August 23 at 11 am at Community Temple church, 338 Harker Street. Pastor Henry Bradley will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
