Wilbur Stoops Obituary

Wilbur C. Stoops

MANSFIELD: Wilbur C. Stoops, 96, passed away Friday morning, April 1, 2011 at The Oaks at Shady Lawn in Dalton, Ohio where he resided for the past 1½ years. Born July 20, 1914 in Tiro, he was the son of the late Lora (Detrow) and Charles Stoops.

He enjoyed music, farming, jigsaw puzzles and spending his money. Wilbur could play numerous musical instruments-the banjo, guitar and dulcimer to name a few. His love of traveling took him many places including Branson, Missouri where he thoroughly enjoyed the music and shows. Wilbur was quite the euchre player and most enjoyed playing with his favorite partner, Betsy.

He is survived by his children, Barbara E. DePue of Mansfield, Frances (Timothy) Baer of Mansfield, Sharon Trent of CA and Carl (Felicia) Stoops of Massillon; grandson, Cody Trent; granddaughter, Andrea Fawn (Marty) Bickle of Columbus; great-granddaughter, Lauryn Bickle; and niece, Betty Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Swimley Stoops; daughter, Carolyn Shaw; sisters, Mary Keagh, Edna Redmond; and brother, Floyd Stoops.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Rev. George Reece will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
