PERRYSVILLE: William R. "Bill" Cook, 76, of Perrysville, OH, passed away at MedCentral Hospital, in Mansfield on Friday, April 6, 2012, following an extended illness.

Bill was born on January 16, 1936, in Mansfield, to Martin S. and Kathryn E Dever Cook. He attended Mansfield Sr. High School, and was active in the sports program, playing football and track, and he participated in shot put and discus. He graduated in 1955, with a football scholarship to Louisiana State University. Along with football, Bill was an avid hunter and gun collector, he also enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He was a life member of NRA, former member of Richland County Fish and Game Club, dual member of the Eagles in Mansfield and Loudonville, former member of the Owls, member of the VFW Post 9943. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived his wife, Sandra Stitzel Cook; two children, Scott Cook of Lake Placid, FL and Sherry Cook (Bryon) Britt of Bellville; three grandchildren, Dustin (Brandy) Britt, Dalton William Britt, and Sharecca Dawn Britt; one great-grandchild, Destiny Elizabeth Marie Britt; three step-daughters; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Diane (Jack) Mason of Meadow View, VA, Phil (Connie) Cook of Mansfield, and Linda Turner of Stowe, VT.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Avenue East (St. Rt. 430E), Mansfield. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Carder officiating.
