Harold S. McFarland

MANSFIELD: Harold S. McFarland, 88, of Mansfield passed away April 18, 2012 at his home.

Harold was born October 23, 1923 in Mansfield to Wayne and Rhea Mae Spayde McFarland. He was a 1943 graduate of Madison High School. He served as an Armed Guard Sailor in the United States Navy during World War II. After serving in the military, Harold met Aileen, they married the following year and would have celebrated 65 years in June. He was a polisher, buffer, and machine repairman in the machine shop for 40 years at Westinghouse. Harold was a member of the Liederkranz, Sons of Herman, Pandora Club, and Kentucky Colonels. He also served as past chef for the 40 et 8, and was a life member for the American Legion and Amvets.

Harold is survived by his wife A. Aileen Dillon McFarland of Mansfield; sister Phyllis (John) McCarrick of Mansfield; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Ralph E. McFarland, Robert H. McFarland; sisters Marie Bigony, Wanda Addlesperger, and Marilyn Swanger.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Friday from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9pm with a 40 et 8 service at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Tom McQuillen officiating. Interment will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
