ASHLAND: Carl R. Blumenschein, 84, of Ashland died Friday, May 25, 2012 at his residence. Born March 19, 1928 in Mansfield, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Murphy) Blumenschein. A veteran of the United States Navy, Carl was the owner/operator of Ashland Rubber Mat. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion, the Eagles, Country Club of Ashland and served as a volunteer at Samaritan Hospital. Carl loved to play cards, work crossword puzzles and spending time in Florida and Lake Erie at Bay Point. His greatest enjoyment though was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son, Randy Blumenschein of The Villages, Florida; a granddaughter, Heather (Vince) Gangi of Ashland; four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Gaylord Strine of Ashland and Margie and Lou Krieg of Loudonville; and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Blumenschein; his parents; and two daughters, Cynthia Sue and Margaret Lucile.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Jeff Messner. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
