Sallie Louise Lumadue

SHELBY: Sallie Louise Jones Lumadue, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in Huntsburg, Ohio. Sallie was a long-time resident of Shelby, OH.

A 1943 graduate of Fitch High School in Austintown, OH, she attended Wittenberg College and Ashland University (BA Music, MEd). Sallie was devoted to family, service and music. She was a prodigious knitter, showering her friends and family with handmade gifts. She wrote poetry which explored themes of hope, redemption and familial love. She sang with the Mansfield Symphony Chorus. After retiring from teaching music, she taught piano lessons, established children's and handbell choirs at several parishes and directed the WITs Program at First Lutheran Church in Shelby. She gave freely of her time and labor, volunteering for the United Way and the Women's Resource Center, and she was honored with the Jesse Rath Volunteer Service Award.

She is survived by her children: Karen Kerr and husband Keith of Newbury, Ohio; Jim Lumadue and wife Robin of San Diego, CA and Elizabeth Straw (Greg d.) of Carbondale, CO. She is also survived by nine grandchildren--Amy Jung (Brian), Matthew Kerr (Jean) and Ryan Kerr (Abbie), Hope Hodges (David), Alison Lamb (Marty), Annalise Katzenberger (James), Nathan Straw, Emily and Jacqueline Lumadue--and ten great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband The Reverend James L. Lumadue (1988), her daughter Claudia Oliver (Jay d.) (2007) and her brother John R. Jones III (1934).

A celebration of life service will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 4065 Mt. Zion Rd., Lucas, Ohio.
