SHELBY: Lester J. Griffith, age 96, resident of Shelby died Sunday, August 19, 2012 in MedCentral/Shelby Hospital following a brief illness.
Born August 31, 1915 in Woodsfield, Ohio to James and Della (Gezchell) Griffith he had been a Shelby resident the majority of his life. Mr. Griffith was employed with Quanex Industries retiring as supervisor.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, 68 year member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #350 F&AM where he served as past master and a 65 year member of the Shelby RAM #178.
Lester enjoyed renovation and remodeling projects, playing cards and gardening. He was a good family man helping whenever he could. He cherished the time spent with his family and especially enjoyed playing board games with his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his daughter, Polly Neer of Shelby; his nephew, Dick (Marilyn) Griffith of Texas; great nieces, great nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Griffith in 2007, son-in-law, Andy Neer; two brothers, Wilbert (Opal) Griffith and Okey (Edith) Griffith and one sister, Vera (Harold) Schwall.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Mel Schroeder and Gaye Shira will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby Help Line Ministries and the Shelby Home & Public Health.
