Marion A. "Woody" Woodruff, Jr.

MANSFIELD: God is the beginning and end as we are born to die and his soul is in God's loving arms now.

Marion A. "Woody" Woodruff, Jr., 75, of Mansfield, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 28, 2012 following a lengthy illness.

Woody was born January 18, 1937 in Vinton County, the son of Marion A. and Viola Frances (Malone) Woodruff, Sr. He attended Mansfield Schools, worked different jobs, and was disabled from the Mansfield Tire and Rubber, Co. On June 8, 1956, he married Billie (Kristoff) Woodruff and they just celebrated their 56th Anniversary. Woody enjoyed fishing and working on cars, especially Volkswagens.

Along with his wife, Woody is survived by four children, Marion "John" Woodruff, Rory Woodruff, Sherry (Tony) Meckes, and Nikkie Vance all of Mansfield; twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Logan, Colton, Elizabeth, Marianna, Shaan (Josh) Hess, Vic, April, Rory, Jr., Haley, George, IV, and Garret; one step grandchild; four great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; four siblings, Rev. Jim (Linda) Woodruff and Sharon (Terry) Whited, all of North Carolina, Caroline Riley of Mansfield, and Marica (Rev. Carl) Woodyard of Milan; one brother-in-law, John Rush; one aunt, Elise Elliott; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one sister, Mary Rush; one son-in-law, George Vance, III; father and mother-in-law, Boris and Lillian Kristoff; and one sister-in-law, Shirley McKinney.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 3, 2012 at Stewart Road Church of God, 1425 N. Stewart Road, Mansfield. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the church with Rev. Jim Woodruff and Rev. Carl Woodyard officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery.
