MANSFIELD: Robert R. Zehner, 87, went home to be with his heavenly Father, Friday, September 14, 2012 where he was welcomed into heaven by his first wife, Virginia (Kindinger) Zehner and their grandson, Geoffrey Eric Metz.

Bob was born August 30, 1925, to the late Clayton and Violet Zehner. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and lived in the area all his life. He was a proud Marine and served with the 1st Marine Division Reconnaissance in the South Pacific during WWII 1943-1945. He received a purple heart during warfare on the Island of Peleliu. Bob and Virginia were married in Mansfield October 14, 1950 until her death in 1996. They were charter members of Westwood Alliance Church. Bob was a master plumber retiring from White-Westinghouse. He married Kathleen Hannan November 25, 2000.

In addition to Virginia and Geoff, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Zehner and Betty Wharton and his brother, William Zehner. He is survived by his second wife, Kathleen (Hannan) Zehner; his five daughters, Connie Zehner, Peggy (George) Metz, and Kathy (Ron) Vrooman, all of Mansfield, and Nancy Watson and Sally Works, both of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Kelly Vrooman of Philadelphia, PA, Ryan (Jen) Vrooman of Lorain, Rob (Sara) Vrooman, Elizabeth Metz, and Reed Vrooman, all of Mansfield, and Ron Watson, Jennifer Watson, Bradey Works, and Kevin Works, all of Plano, TX; and four great grandchildren.

Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love and devotion to his family. He had a keen observation for God's creation and enjoyed worshiping most recently at the Loudonville Baptist Temple. He was passionately patriotic.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public viewing or funeral service. There will be a private interment at a later date.
