Virginia T. Hatcher

SHELBY: Virginia Anne (Tindale) Hatcher, age 84, resident of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2012 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born January 8, 1928 in Shelby, the only child of the late Ralph and Helen (Stock) Tindale. A 1946 graduate of Shelby High School, she had worked at the Citizen Bank in Shelby, Gerald Lewis, CPA and the Shelby Salesbook retiring in 1991. On January 8, 1955 she married naval officer, George M. Hatcher. Together they were stationed in California, Virginia, South Carolina, Japan and Hawaii. She returned to Shelby in 1965 to raise their three children.

Ginny was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, a Girl Scout and den leader and volunteered at MedCentral/Shelby Hospital for 21 years. Always a positive role model, Ginny consistently placed her children's interest above her own. Even during the most stressful times, she always had a smile on her face. She was the ideal mother who understood the difference between discipline and individual expression. A proud grandmother, Ginny was a sports enthusiast and an avid OSU fan.

She is survived by one son, Steven (Luellen) Hatcher of Jupiter, Florida, two daughters, Holly Kay of Chicago, and Sharon (Robert, Jr.) Hickson of Mt. Gilead; eight grandchildren, Charles (Brittany) Hatcher, Rick (Bethlee)Hatcher, Hannah (Josh) Haney, twins, Michael and Lisa Reamer and triplets, Maura, Robert III, and Elizabeth Hickson; six great grandchildren, Charlie, Mady and Jackson Haney, Alicia Hatcher and twins, Aaron and Andrew Hatcher; and sister-in-law, Pauline Miller Fairchild of Henderson, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Lt. Commander George M. Hatcher and her feline companion, Bo.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Union Cemetery, Sulpher Springs. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
