Ruby C. Freiheit

MANSFIELD: Ruby C. Freiheit, 87, of Mansfield passed away November 7, 2012 at home following an extended illness.

Ruby was born December 31, 1924 in New Washington, OH to Lawrence and Bertha Steinmetz. She graduated from St. Peter's High School and spent most of her life in the Mansfield area. On April 10, 1944 Ruby married the love of her life, Adam "Audy" Freiheit. Anyone who knew Audy and Ruby would tell you that they were a match made in heaven and were soul mates. They spent 68 years together and were rarely ever seen apart. She retired from Therm-O-Disc and was a longtime member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Ruby was a homemaker for years raising five children. Her passions in life included spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, her church, and playing golf with her friends. Even though her home was always filled with her own family, she would always welcome more, especially on Sunday's for friends and family to gather after church. One of her greatest joys in life was her yearly family vacations to Lake Erie. This tradition started in 1946, and you can still find four generations of Freiheits on the beaches of Lake Erie every summer. She was a loving and compassionate person who always had a smile on her face. She was one to never judge and would always look for the good in someone.

She is survived by her husband Adam Freiheit; children Sandi (Tom) Lesch, Karen (Scott) Sharrock, Susan (David) Messmore, Cathy (Dale) Squires; grandchildren Michelle (Bryan) Groff, Brian (Mary Jo) Lesch, Kelly (Todd) Spangler, Craig (Danielle) Shrewsberry, Adam (Kim) Shrewsberry, Jason (fiance Andrea) Wooldridge, Heather (Ryan) Noland, Alison (Terry Copp) Squires, Nick Squires, Julie (Brett) Turner, Monica (John) Gonzales, John (Julianne) Messmore; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Virgil (Ruth) Steinmetz; brothers and sister-in-law Tony (Bev) Freiheit, Jim Boreman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Eric Freiheit; sisters Marcella Huck and Rita Pasheilich.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Sunday from 4 - 8pm with a vigil service at 4pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Tom McQuillen officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Msgr. Edward C. Dunn Foundation or MedCentral Hospice.
