Robert Leland Eichelberger

ASHLAND: Robert Leland Eichelberger, 88 passed quietly in a room with his family from this life to his reward in heaven on November 11, 2012 at the Kingston of Ashland Nursing Facility following a brief illness. 'Bob' was born December 10, 1923 in Ashland, the son of Warren and Villa (Scott) Eichelberger. He married Irene Stelzer on July 1, 1945. He lived on a farm north of Ashland almost his entire life. Bob and Irene are the parents of Ralph (Carolyn McFarland), Roger (Sherry Young), Martha (Jeff) Ling, and Barb (Mitch) Bolin. They have nineteen grandchildren including spouses: Greg and Natalie; Tracy; Sara and Dan; Jody and Dave; Luke and Lisa; Bryan and Angie; Elizabeth and Derek; Bob and Becky; Jason and Jessica; Ben; and John. They also have seven great grand children: Chelsea; Tyler; Blayne; Brayden; Makaylee; Madalyn; and Lance. His entire family lives in Ashland County.

Bob's sister Pauline Holmes lives in Wooster. He is also survived by 12 nephews, nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Merle, two sisters, Vera Kestner, and an infant sister Esther. In addition, one brother-in-law Richard Holmes, and a sister-in-law Beulah Eichelberger preceded him in death.

Bob's legacy in life is his family. He loved his wife of 67 years, his children and their spouse, and all his grandchildren, their spouse, and his great grandchildren. He was a life-long member of the former Clear Creek Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon for many years, and Ashland Christian Church. His faith in God was his life, and he passed his faith to his entire family by example.

Bob attended Savannah schools. He was a good farmer and neighbor. He loved to till the soil, and gather the harvest. He was passionate about his Allis-Chalmers WD 45 tractor and caring for his equipment. He was also passionate about potatoes and ice cream, especially home made. After retiring from farming in 1994, he worked a few years for Kinstel Machine Shop, and later drove truck for Hergatt Machine Shop.

Visitation prior to the funeral will be on Wednesday, November 14th from 4 to 8 pm at the Wappner Funeral Home, 308 Claremont Ave. Ashland. The funeral service will be at 10:30 on Thursday, November 15th at the Wappner Funeral Home with Scot Myers, minister at Ashland Christian Church conducting the service. Burial will be at the Ashland County Memorial Park on State Route 250 north of Ashland. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Bryan and Luke Eichelberger; Bobby and Jason Ling; and John and Ben Bolin. Tractor accompany at the cemetery will be Greg Eichelberger. A dinner following the service will be held at Ashland Church of Christ, 1185 County Road 1356.

In place of flowers, the family is asking that your kindness be expressed to Ashland Christian Church, Round Lake Christian Camp, or Kingston of Ashland.

Life lessons taught by Bob to his children, and their children live on in three generations. Bob finished well.
