Albert "Al" W. Burggraf

MANSFIELD: Albert "Al" W. Burggraf, age 77, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at Liberty Nursing Center following declining health. He will be sadly missed by his family. Al was born April 1, 1935 in Mansfield to the late Odilo "Did" and Elva (Clase) Burggraf. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Class of 1954. Al retired from General Motors as a welder after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two different enlistments. Al was a member of VFW Post #9943, Amvets Post #26 and the Ashland American Legion. He was also a member of several veteran organizations and the Sons of Herman. In his spare time, Al enjoyed fishing, wood working and day tripping with his wife.

He leaves behind his lovely wife of 46 years, "a jack of all trades", Veronica Elizabeth (Scovronski) Burggraf whom he married on November 18, 1966; sons, Russell James Burggraf of Mansfield and Wesley Howard of MO; daughter, Patti Anne (Gary) Bourke of TX; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, Francis Edward (Chris) Scovronski, Peter John (Kathy) Scovronski, Henry Jacob (Margaret) Scovronski and Gregory Arthur (Dorothy) Scovronski, all of WI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma in September 2010; a brother, Lowell (Marilyn); in-laws, Henry Edward and Joan Frances Scovronski; three brothers-in-law, James, Chester and David Scovronski; and a nephew, Brian Scott.

Friends and family may visit from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, with military honors presented the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad immediately prior to the visitation. A graveside service conducted by Rev. Paul Larson will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church or the Humane Society of Richland County.
